Here's a tip: never toss a live mouse into a brush fire. Karma's a bitch.

An 81-year-old man in Fort Sumner, NM, did just that recently, with unpleasant results. The mouse, now on fire, ran back to the safety of its home--also the man's home--and set the house on fire.

To be fair, the man claimed that he committed the attempted immolation to keep the possibly poisoned mouse, which he had caught in a glue trap, out of reach of his beloved cats. So he is an animal lover, even if he does believe in burning some animals alive. He's paid the price by losing his house.

The cats are the ones who really got the short end of this deal. Not only were they deprived of an excellent live-mouse toy, they are now living in the burned-out remains of the house. If only they'd done their job in the first place and caught the mouse themselves, as nature intended, everyone would be happy.

Except the mouse.

More details about the mouse fire.
