President Bush was at Monticello for a 4th of July celebration and he delivered an address. But it's quite telling that his speechwriters, in quoting Jefferson, cut out an anti-religious statement from a long and famous quote. Here's the way Bush put it:
Thomas Jefferson understood that these rights do not belong to Americans alone. They belong to all mankind. And he looked to the day when all people could secure them. On the 50th anniversary of America's independence, Thomas Jefferson passed away. But before leaving this world, he explained that the principles of the Declaration of Independence were universal. In one of the final letters of his life, he wrote, "May it be to the world, what I believe it will be -- to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all -- the Signal of arousing men to burst the chains, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government."
Now let's look at the full quote, including the part that was cut out... |

Think your favorite web site has integrity?
Blogger Colleen Caldwell rants and riffs about whatever strikes her fancy — a run-in with her child's school principal, the rising price of Girl Scout thin mints, or an upcoming movie that caught her eye.
"Has anyone out there read a book called 'The Ultimate Gift'? I just heard that a movie is being made of the book (which sold 4 million copies)," she wrote in a recent post on her site, Simple Kind of Life.
The 30-year-old software analyst from Brooksville, Fla., went on to praise the inspirational message of the Fox Faith film, which opens today, about a trust fund baby who discovers the joy of giving.
One thing Caldwell didn't mention: She was paid $12 to build buzz about the movie's opening and the charitable campaign — bringing her blogging-for-dollars take to more than $7,700.
I can assure you here at BSAlert, we're not taking any money to run stories... after all, when have we said something nice about anybody lately? |

Joe Rogan Verses Carlos Mencia

Normally we don't post goofy celebrity crap on this site. I could care less about Anna Nicole Smith or which closet Tom Cruise is hiding in, but the delicious irony of this was too tempting...
Joe Rogan says, So here's how it all went down...I had a set at the comedy store Saturday night, and after I closed, I was bringing on the next comedian, a guy named Kirk Fox that works for Carlos Mencia. I introduce him saying that he's a funny guy, and that he opens on the road for Carlos "Menstealia." That’s the name we call him at the comedy store, and of course Carlos doesn't like it one bit. Carlos was apparently in the room when I said this, and the perfect combination of ego and timing made him decide that this was the night to put his foot down. As I got off stage and headed towards the back of the room, he grabbed the mike away from Kirk, and said that I was too much of a pussy to say that shit to his face. Which to me, is something akin to the hottest girl in the world daring you to f*ck her while you're standing there in her bedroom naked with a boner..."
Update: Carlos Mencia has apparently turned into a whiny baby and forced Rogan's agency to dump him.
Since Carlos Mencia isn't original, isn't Mexican, and isn't talented, and wants to destroy Joe Rogan for exposing his theft of other comedians' material, why not send a message to comedy central about how you feel. Maybe if enough of us complain, Mencia can get a dose of his own medicine? Also, here's a petition to get Mencia off Comedy Central. |
